What is the difference between ACRYLITE® & EUROPLEX™?
ACRYLITE® for Aircraft Transparencies:
ACRYLITE® has a full line of sheet products that can meet the many needs of helicopter, general aviation, commercial aircraft and military aircraft windows and transparencies. Aircraft glazing was one of the first applications for cast acrylic sheet. Acrylic is lightweight, resistant to thermal shock, has excellent optical clarity and mechanical properties.
Cast aviation grade sheets are used for glazing, edge-lit panels, wing tip lenses, and other transparent applications in the aviation industry. ACRYLITE® aviation grade sheet possesses the following properties:
- Excellent light transmission and brilliance
- Outstanding weather resistance
- 100% recycling ability
- Easy to fabricate
- High surface hardness
- Light weight – half the weight of glass
- 11 times more break resistant than glass
ACRYLITE® Stretched acrylic sheet meets and is certified to prEN 4366 and MIL-PRF-25690. ACRYLITE® Stretched is produced from ACRYLITE® 249 cross-linked material. The stretched acrylic increases the resistance to crazing and solvent attack, as well as improves mechanical behavior. ACRYLITE® Stretched is used in a wide variety of commercial, military and rotary wing applications in monolithic or laminated form.
ACRYLITE® 249 acrylic sheet meets and is qualified to prEN 4365 and MIL-PRF-8184 (Type I, Class 2). ACRYLITE® 249 is a cross-linked cast acrylic sheet with increased resistance to crazing and solvent attack, as well as improved dimensional stability after heating. ACRYLITE® 249 sheet is used in a wide variety of commercial, military and rotary wing transparencies in monolithic or laminated form.
ACRYLITE® GMS acrylic sheet meets and is qualified to prEN 4364 and MIL-PRF-5425 for use in the aviation industry in applications where exacting standards are established for aircraft applications. It has premium optical quality, dimensional stability, and extraordinary flatness and tolerance control. Current applications include instrument panels, wingtip lenses, dust covers, helicopter bubbles, and aircraft canopies. ACRYLITE® GMS sheet is used in aerospace transparent enclosures in monolithic or laminated form.
ACRYLITE® GMU sheet is a cell cast acrylic sheet designed for general aviation and helicopter window applications and is superior to standard cell cast acrylics in both optical quality and thickness tolerance. The material is used for applications that do not specify material certified to any particular aviation standard. It is manufactured and certified to meet the requirements of AMS-LP-391, Type I, Grade C. ACRYLITE® GMU sheet is used for aviation applications where military specifications are not required at an economical cost.
ACRYLITE® aircraft-grade acrylic sheet is available in a variety of industry standard transparent, translucent, and opaque colors. ACRYLITE® aircraft-grade sheets are produced in a wide variety of thicknesses, in large format sizes and with the best thickness tolerance in the industry. Additionally, ACRYLITE® aviation products are now available with UV and IR radiation absorbing features. The special color technology provides design flexibility to aircraft cockpits and cabin interiors by filtering out unwanted ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation. This feature works in both ends of the solar spectrum outside the visible range. The reduction of UV and IR radiation exposure, helps minimize the weathering of interior fabrics and components, and prevents heat build-up in the aircraft enclosure. The UV and IR absorbing technology is available in all standard and custom colors.
EUROPLEX™ for Aircraft Interiors
EUROPLEX™ high performance sheet products meet many of the most constringent requirement for aircraft interiors.
The extruded sheets are used in seat backs, tray tables, arm rest, wall panels, galleys, lavatories and many other in aircraft interiors. EUROPLEX™ sheets possess the following properties:
- Available in opaque and transparent sheet
- Light weight
- Highly impact resistant
- Flame retardant
- Low smoke and toxicity properties
EUROPLEX F series sheets are polycarbonate based sheets whose flame-retardant properties have been further improved beyond those of standard polycarbonate. The EUROPLEX™ F series meets the fire standard requirements for many applications in public transportation and also offers excellent impact resistance and strength. It is easy to fabricate and can be formed into complex shapes using standard thermoforming equipment. EUROPLEX™ F3 is a series of opaque PC sheets available in over 100 different colors; virtually any custom color can be provided upon request. The sheets are manufactured with a matte texture (hair cell) on one side and are ideally suited for a wide range of applications. EUROPLEX™ F7 is a transparent, UV stabilized PC sheet with especially low smoke emissions intended for interior applications. EUROPLEX™ F6 is a translucent white polycarbonate sheet with a light transmittance of 44 % (3.0 mm). The material was specially developed and is used for lighting covers in aircraft, busses and rail cars.
EUROPLEX™ PPSU series sheets are flame-retardant sheets material based on polyphenylsulfone (PPSU). PPSU shows excellent mechanical properties as well as good chemical resistance. The sheet series meets the fire standard requirements for many applications in public transport including the OSU 65/65 heat release requirements for large interior parts in passenger aircraft. EUROPLEX™ PPSU sheets are available in transparent and opaque colors. EUROPLEX™ PPSU 99460 H opaque grey is available with one surface with a hair cell texture and the other surface smooth. The EUROPLEX™ PPSU 99460 H sheet receives an excellent rating in the OSU (Ohio State University) fire test, with test values clearly below the prescribed 65/65. EUROPLEX™ PPSU 99470 is a low color tinted, transparent sheet grade of PPSU, which was developed specifically for aircraft interior applications. The sheet offers low heat release, low smoke generation, and low toxic gas emissions, thereby complying with the FAA/JAA regulation 14CFR Part 25.853 Appendix F. The sheet is available in different transparent (grey/ brown) colors. Custom color matching can also be provided.
The EUROPLEX high performance sheet products can be provided with a functional coating. Different systems can be applied, such as high-scratch resistance (KR) or white light-scattering coating (DF). Functional coating for EUROPLEX™ sheet provide hardness, non-glare light-scattering surfaces combined with improved climatic resistance.
