ACRYLITE® Molding Compounds
ACRYLITE® molding compounds are thermoplastics based on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), standardized to ASTM D788, DIN 7745/ISO 8257. ACRYLITE® molding compounds are characterized by a number of chemical, physical and technical properties that are indispensable for manufacturing high-quality parts by injection molding, injection blow molding and extrusion. We encounter ACRYLITE® or one of our other molding compounds every day in a multitude of applications and in diff erent market segments.
ACRYLITE® molding compound grades are so highly transparent that molded parts and semifi nished products manufactured from them provide the maximum possible light transmission of 92%. It shows only the physically unavoidable refl ection loss of 4% at each surface where light enters and exits. This unique clarity makes it possible to obtain particularly pure colors with an outstanding degree of precision.
As confirmed by tests in all of the world’s climates, ACRYLITE® molding compounds show unsurpassed resistance to weathering and aging. They do not turn yellow or wear away under chemical attack, show no deterioration of their properties and are not subject to decay. Therefore, ACRYLITE® makes a major contribution to resource conservation. That was also one of the outstanding points in its favor in the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) performed in accordance with DIN ISO 14040ff.
Due to their chemical composition, ACRYLITE® molding compounds are uniquely suitable for chemical recycling and material recovery.
In addition to their pleasant feel and sound, molded parts and semifi nished products made from ACRYLITE® (PMMA) present the greatest surface hardness and thus the best scratch resistance of all thermoplastics. This enables them to preserve their high gloss even aft er prolonged use.
Food contact approvals
The crystal-clear molding compounds ACRYLITE®, ACRYLITE® Resist and ACRYLITE® Satinice conform to FDA Regulation 21CFR177.1010, Commission Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 repealing Commission Directive 2002/72/EC, as well as to Recommendation XXII of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR, formerly BgVV). They also comply with the German Consumer Goods Ordinance (December 23, 1997). Please consult us with regard to other grades and colored molding compounds.
All clear grades of CYROLITE® (except CYROLITE® Med2 and CYROLITE® Protect: both of which have not been tested) , CYREX 200-8005 and clear grades of XT®polymer conform to FDA Regulations for food contact requirements in 21CFR177.1010, 21CFR180.22 and 21CFR177.1580 as appropriate to the specifi c product.
The Performance Polymers Business Unit of Roehm America LLC maintains high standards for its management systems. All manufacturing processes for ACRYLITE® molding compounds are subjected to a continuous improvement process. All sites are certifi ed in accordance with ISO 14001:2004, and RC 14001:2008. Additionally, each manufacturing site is certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2008.
CYROLITE® Protect and CYREX® Protect antimicrobial grades meet FDA Class I or Class II medical devices covered by 510(k) PMN submission.
