What is its intended usage?
This acrylic was specially designed for use in wide-format printers equipped with Braille and 3D graphic printing capabilities, for the production of braille, ADA compliant and architectural signage.
Who is the target customer?
Sign manufacturers specializing in ADA-compliant and architectural interior signage, who currently own or are considering investing in a UV flatbed printer capable of printing tactile 3D, Braille and raised lettering.
What is the difference between ACRYLITE® digital print pop touch acrylic and the ACRYLITE® digital print non-glare (P99) acrylic?
ACRYLITE® digital print pop touch acrylic has a printable cap layer on both surfaces and has a heavier matte finish that targets the gloss level of the ADA requirements. In contrast, ACRYLITE® digital print non-glare (P99) acrylic has the cap layer on a single surface and has a fine texture ideal for photography, high-end signage and other prints.
Can the product be used both indoors and outdoors?
The product is recommended for indoor applications as its long-term weatherability may be affected by
several factors. Additionally, consultation with the ink manufacturer is advised to determine if the inks can
withstand outdoor exposure.
What type of protective masking is used on this acrylic?
The product utilizes a special low-static film masking to prevent interference with the digital printing process. The
masking on the textured side of the sheet is colorless, allowing for inspection while ensuring it remains securely
attached to the acrylic. The masking on the gloss side of the sheet is a low static white, recling, polyethylene that
protects the sheet during fabrication processes.
PRINTING
Is this product ADA Compliant?
Yes, it is. It features a heavy-matte finish first surface, that complies with ADA requirements.
Can all wide-format printers print tactile 3D, Braille and raised lettering on ACRYLITE® digital print pop touch acrylic?
No, not all wide-format printers are capable of this. It’s crucial to verify whether the UV wide-format printer offers add-ons and/or features, along with the appropriate ink specifically designed for tactile / Braille printing.
Can you print on both sides?
Yes, you can. Both sides of the acrylic are specially designed for UV printing. Printing on the second surface can add depth to the sign, while the first surface allows for printing braille and other tactical elements.
Do I have to prep or finish the acrylic with primers or adhesion promoters to ensure the ink adheres properly?
No, you don’t. The acrylic’s special coating ensures that UV curable inks form a strong bond with the surface without
the need for primers or adhesion promoters.
Does the printed ink flake off during routing and other fabrication processes?
No, it doesn’t. The sheet provides superior ink adhesion to both the first and second surface, preventing flaking and
chipping during fabrication.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT
Does ACRYLITE® digital print pop touch acrylic fabricate differently?
No, it fabricates like regular acrylic. However, it cannot be flamed-polished.
Printing braille signs versus traditional methods translates into significant savings associated with operating costs and reductions in:
• Labor and operator hours. Now you can print multiple signs simultaneously, saving man-hours by eliminating
unnecessary steps such as priming the sheet.
• Equipment costs. There’s no need to invest in additional equipment to punch holes or creating the braille spheres.
• Material costs. Reduce overhead by printing in your desired color instead of stocking piles of various colors.
Additionally, you’ll be able to discontinue the use of adhesion promoters and primers.
• Waste from reworking signs due to ink damage caused by the use of non-receptive acrylic.
Printing braille on ACRYLITE® digital print pop touch acrylic offers the flexibility to create custom signs tailored
to customers’ distinct branding needs. These premium signs are valued and sold at higher prices and increase
profitability.
