Bonny Lhotka printing on ACRYLITE® Reflections frosted mirror

Bonny Lhotka chose to use ACRYLITE® Reflections frosted mirror Silver 0M001 X1 for this project because of its unique factors (since then, we have made a new and improved version called 0M001 X2). This allowed the printed inks to appear to be stacked in layers. By alternating this opaque white and transparent inks, the frosted mirror material allows the work to appear to have physical depth to the inks. It took two full days to print the work because of the multiple layers
Previously, she had been using the ACRYLITE® crystal surface material since 2006 when she started exploring UV flatbed printing. The added mirror backing and the etched surface is the best material for fine art UV printing.

Bonny Lhotka (Bonny@Lhotka.com), Jay Roberts

Bonny Lhotka has an exhibit of her fine art UV prints work at The Walker Fine Art Gallery in Denver through January 6th 2019. The Fracture Series can be viewed on her website https://bonnylhotka.com/
To create the art, Bonny worked at Roland Digital Graphics with Jay Roberts the product manager for UV printers. She first saw this material at the SGIA Tradeshow years ago. The work was produced on the LEJ 640 flat bed printer. Because Lhotka had 3 years of experience with a Roland LEF Bench Top printer in her own studio, she was easily able to create the complex layering of image files using the white inks and
varnish inks to print her 40” x 60” images.

Lhotka’s art is in public and private art collections in the US and around the world. Her work is in the collection of the US Department of State, Lockheed Martin, The Consumer Electronic Association, St Regis Hotels, Johnson Space Center, Coke-a-Cola and Children’s Hospital. She is a recipient of the Computerworld Smithsonian Award. Her work is in the collection of the Smithsonian Art Museum. She is the author of three books on mixed media experimental digital printing.
