Application Story - ACRYLITE®

Kim Xu, a prominent and emerging artist from China, was given the responsibility of crafting an exhibit that would showcase the grandeur of ACRYLITE® acrylic at the Röhm Asia Technology Center.

The project encompassed two specific objectives. First, it aimed to leave a lasting impression on visitors. Second, it sought to provide an interactive and immersive experience.

Kim carefully explored our range of ACRYLITE^® products and was particularly drawn to ACRYLITE^® Satinice white acrylic due to its color purity and velvety texture. This material inspired Kim to begin designing.

KimXu Studio skillfully managed the entire design journey, from initial mock-up sampling to fabrication and installation, resulting in a masterpiece that surpassed all expectations. The final structure is made up of more than 1,800 milled individual components. Kim was mainly focused on the texture and touch of the material, therefore the lighting aspects remained subtle to allow the material to show in its original form. The abstract design is a truly inspiring exhibit that pushes boundaries – much like ACRYLITE^® acrylic.

Kim Xu’s design inspiration in his own words

“Time, space, point, line, and surface constitute the world. Atoms, ions, and electrons make up a constantly moving world. The dimension we are in is the physical object we see, or vice versa. We are just the kernel moment of this dimensional space. Driven by curiosity, we want to understand the world more clearly, right now. Perhaps everything begins with emptiness. Emptiness is not nothing, but the extreme and has no boundary.”

Acrylic that inspires

An accent of illumination

The Röhm sign is made with black ACRYLITE^® acrylic as the base material. On top of this, a 1.181-inch thick ACRYLITE^® LED-optimized letter block in White WM51 GT is engraved and illuminated with embedded LED lights.
