Protection at Every Stage with ACRYLITE® Gallery Acrylic

Framer Karen Tracy from Shoreline Framing in Westbrook, CT is especially interested in keeping her frames and what’s inside it protected during every stage of the framing process.

Defining characteristics

Karen has worked with various ACRYLITE® Gallery products in the past; the most recent being ACRYLITE® Gallery UV filtering OP3 Colorless 0B000 AR acrylic sheet. She framed two art pieces with this material that filters out nearly 100% of UV light and creates a non-glare surface for unhindered viewing.

Although these two characteristics are often considered its standout features, Karen had her sights focused on two other defining characteristics that are just as important, but often overlooked: its protective masking and lightweight form.

The power to protect

Karen is particularly fond of ACRYLITE® acrylic’s masking. Her goal as a professional framer is to keep the pieces she frames protected not only from the moment they’re in her shop, but also for many years after they’re hung up on her clients walls. This includes keeping the protective glazing used in tiptop shape.

With ACRYLITE® acrylic’s masking intact from the start, Karen is able to prepare the glazing to be framed without worrying about causing any damage during the installation process. Once she is ready to frame, Karen removes the masking and sets the glazing inside the frame to reveal the final look.

Where safety is of concern

Karen also loves how lightweight ACRYLITE® acrylic is and often suggests it to her clients as it is much safer than other glazing options if it were to fall. This comes in handy for pieces that are framed for nurseries or children’s rooms in particular as there is a greater chance the framed piece can be jostled around.

At only half the weight of glass, ACRYLITE® acrylic sheet remains more impact resistant than glass. If the impact it endures goes beyond the limit of its resistance, it does not shatter into small slivers, but breaks into comparatively large pieces for a safer and easier cleanup. Acrylic’s lightweight quality also makes the installation and handling of the material effortless. "It’s very easy to work with. I have used ACRYLITE® acrylic in several large framing jobs," says Karen.
