Adding Dimension & Light To Museum Of Jewish Heritage’s New Exhibit

Visitors of a at the interactive exhibit at the Museum of Jewish Heritage-A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York City will be treated to a visual spectacle like no other, thanks in no small part to POLYVANTIS Sanford LLC's ACRYLITE® Satinice acrylic tubes. The acrylic tubes combined with LEDs are used as a unique, functional design element by distributing light and creating dimension in the museum’s new Keeping History Center, which opened to the public on November 6, 2009.

Designed by C&G Partners and Potion, the Keeping History Center presents Jewish-American history through individual stories and voices transmitted in a state-of-the-art, interactive, digital experience. The new exhibit is located at the end of a special 2,200 square foot exhibit hall that has panoramic views of the New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty signifying how immigrants were welcomed into the United States through Ellis Island.

ACRYLITE® Satinice tubes, which were recommended by and purchased from E&T Plastics out of Long Island City, are suspended from the ceiling of the exhibit in a variety of lengths to create an extraordinary visual experience. The longest tubes, which reach down to nearly floor level, function as luminaries feeding light throughout the hall and contain a message emblazoned in blue. The smaller tubes glow with the transmitted light and create a unique visual dynamic.

“The superior, even light transmission and optics of our acrylic tubes allow for the aesthetically pleasing design element the creators envisioned. We truly believe our tubes enhance the features of the new exhibit and make it a focal point of the museum” stated Polyvantis Product Rep Debbie.

Extremely energy efficient, ACRYLITE® Satinice tubes create a greater luminous intensity from an internal light source of the same power or deliver the same luminosity at a lower energy cost compared to alternative materials. The frosted surface of the ACRYLITE® Satinice tube hides fingerprints for enhanced service life and less maintenance, an important feature considering how they are being used at the Center. Additionally, acrylic is light in weight and more resistant to breakage than glass, making ACRYLITE® acrylic a superior choice when considering the safety of the Museum’s patrons.

The ACRYLITE® Satinice tubes are an integral part of the Keeping History Center. The Center encourages people of all ages to share their thoughts and experiences through state-of-the-art interactive tools. Understanding our history is the key to our future and POLYVANTIS is proud to be a part of this exhibit. As stated by an unknown source, “We have inherited the past; we can create the future.”
