Steam room with LED lighting

These photos show a finished steam room built for the customer Migros in Switzerland. The interior is made from ACRYLITE® Satinice white and serves as a steam room in which visitors can relax at a temperature of about 113°F. The unique feature of this project is that the entire space can be lit throughout by LED illumination, including RGB LEDs, allowing any color to be used. It was therefore necessary to produce the entire unit, including the integrated benches, in translucent materials.

One of the challenges was how to bond together the individual components, taking into account the considerable temperature fluctuations and high humidity in daily operation. Schäfer met these challenges by using a special adhesive system and innovative mechanical bonding solutions designed in-house.

Selection Criteria

The material of choice for this project was ACRYLITE® Satinice white velvet texture because of its hue and high-quality surface. The weather resistant properties of ACRYLITE® Satinice was perfect to use because of the temperature and humidity inside the steam room.
