Steam room with LED lighting
These photos show a finished steam room built for the customer Migros in Switzerland. The interior is made from frosted ACRYLITE® Satinice white acrylic and serves as a steam room, where visitors can relax at a temperature of approximately 113°F. The unique feature of this project is that the entire space can be illuminated throughout with LED lights, including RGB LEDs, allowing for any color to be used. It was therefore necessary to produce the whole unit, including the integrated benches, in translucent materials.
One of the challenges was how to bond the individual components together, taking into account the considerable temperature fluctuations and high humidity in daily operation. Schäfer addressed these challenges by utilizing a specialized adhesive system and in-house-designed innovative mechanical bonding solutions.
Selection Criteria
The material of choice for this project was white ACRYLITE® Satinice velvet texture acrylic due to its hue and high-quality surface. The weather-resistant properties of ACRYLITE® Satinice made it ideal for use in the steam room, given the temperature and humidity conditions.
